Week 3

Well, Oskar has figured it out. At first he seemed scared by it, but then he became more curious then anything, coming back to talk to Eli to try and figure everything out.

Things finally make sense with Hakan... he was a bit of a child pedophile before he met Eli. I never understood his infatuation with Eli, especially because she looked like a 12 year old girl... But once we got the history on how Hakan and Eli met, it all makes sense to a point (I mean as much sense as a child pedophile can make).

It is a big bummer about Victoria. I know that Lacke was just trying to save Victoria, however, in the end, by stopping the attack, he turned Victoria into a vampire, or whatever they are calling them.

Things are finally beginning to piece together, I feel like there is going to be many more killings before the right people find out what is going on.

  1. I felt really bad when Victoria got attacked by Eli and now has turned. She didn't deserve it and Lacke, of course, realized too late that he loves her and tells her but she didn't hear(which would have meant a lot to her before the attack) as she was unconscious. I'm wondering what Victoria will do now that she realizes she can't continue to drink her own blood to make herself feel better. Sigh.

Darn, I didn't want Hakan to make it really. He was so disfigured by the acid and now asking Eli to help him live and escape by being another vampire. Geez, there are too many of them.

At least Eli or Elias assured Oskar that she would not hurt him so he is "safe" in that way. It was sad that when he finally fought back against the two boys on the ice that everyone thought Oskar was in the wrong except the gym work out teacher. He saw that it was two on one and that Oskar finally stood up to them. Oskar's dad does love him but as the mom says, he is immature and it shows when the friend comes over and Oskar had to do without his dad's company. Why couldn't the dad say to the guy that he hardly ever sees his son and wants to spend time with Oskar rather than the choice he made. Poor Oskar!

I agree, Jennifer, that Oskar was scared when he saw Eli's reaction to his blood. Her concern was for him and she told him to leave and she didn't want to "infect" him. I was actually surprised that he sought her out when he returned from his dad's. But he stood up to her by getting angry and saying he was tired of the lies.

Now want to see what happens next.

  2. Jen, Gosta kind of reminded me of the people who are "animal" hoarders although he didn't have as many cats as on the show Brady was watching with us. It's just when they were talking about the urine smell, not opening the window so the cats couldn't get out.
Yep, it makes sense the infatuation of Hakan with Eli/Elias not only because he is a pedophile but because she "saved" him from himself. She seems to have that "special touch" that calms people down, with Hakan and then also with Oskar (holding their face in her hands they seemed to relax and become more calm.
Oskar isn't sure how to react about knowing more concerning Eli/Elias'. He still seems to be drawn to her but at the same time somewhat repulsed with who or what she is. I'm still trying to figure out what she is - neither boy or girl and not really a vampire. She does come up with an ugly image when she is ready to feed. The claws, webbing and all.
I felt bad for Victoria...although Lacke was trying to save her, she'd be better off being dead as now she is "turning". Will Hakan end up looking good again if he gets his blood or will he be and disfigured vampire through all this.
Interesting that Jonny, now we know with his family why he is a bully, becomes a coward when Oskar stood up for himself and struck back.
Will Oskar "serve" Eli/Elias or become one of them. When will it stop and who will become one next? Can't wait to read on.

  3. Sorry Jen, but I am jumping the gun cause I want to continue reading.

wow, Part 4 was a real fast paced part. Poor Victoria - she really doesn't want to be in this situation and is really fighting hard to not be bad. The reaction of the cats to her entering Gosta's apartment was pretty scary. Just goes to show you that animals have this inner scent to discern human nature (what is good or what is harmful). Of course, Lacke, who is so tired is up to the rescue of Victoria. She realizes that there is a monster inside of her fighting for control and she is fighting back. So the conversation that she had with Lacke, while in the hospital, where they confess that they love each other reinforces her determination to fight off the evil in her. Hence, her sacrificing herself to the sunlight where she gets burned up. Lacke is beside himself.

Now Lacke, is going to go after the "thing" that he saw attack Victoria. He has good intentions but his hesitation caused his demise. I was surprised, in a way, that Oskar let Eli finish Lacke. I thought he might stop it instead of closing the door. I wonder if seeing her back torn apart made him think she needed Lacke to survive and heal herself.

Eli/Elias shows character in that she offered to pay Jonny for his blood and not kill him and take it. She did that because of her friendship with Oskar and knowing Jonny has some ties with Oskar. However, in her weakness after fighting with Hakan, Eli caused Jonny to be locked in with Hakan. She thought that Jonny was gone and she wanted to contain Hakan but what a mess that turned out to be. You have to admire Jonny's will to survive and get the better of Hakan. I was impressed. I feel sorry for him cause he doesn't feel he is important to anyone. HIs mother is struggling for happiness but the policeman is not the answer. He is too harsh with Jonny and instinctively Jonny doesn't trust him.

So Eli/Elias wants a friend and is so happy that Oskar is willing to be that so she is sharing some of her/his background by kissing him so he can "see". It's like flashbacks. AM still curious about the mysterious guy.

Thomas and Jonas are real bullies and even though Oskar had beaten Jonas, it didn't give him much of a break. So dangling him above the track with an oncoming train is really scary and it was witnessed by that woman who felt Oskar should have reported it to the police. I thought she should have done it since Oskar chose not to. Ones that are being bullied don't ever report it to authorities and Oskar is following that theory.

So see why I want to finish reading cause I would like some closure on all of this. What are our thoughts????
