Week 4

Oh Aunt Joyce... I tried so hard to type it up last night... but of course... I fell asleep... hahaha!

This fourth section was really intense and fast paced. Aunt Joyce, I agree with all you say. I knew that Virginia was probably going to end up trying to kill herself when Oskar was talking to Eli about how many of them there are... and s/he said that there weren't that many cuz most killed themselves.

I do agree with you Aunt Joyce on Eli showing "character," but I still have a hard time believing that anything that kills (whether they have to or not) is not a good person.... Eli showing some caring for Johnny for Oskar doesn't make up for all of the others that have passed for Eli's needing of blood. I think what Virgina did was the heroic thing to do.

I felt so bad for the kitties... they recognized the evil in the Virginia, and couldn;t help but attack... and unfortunately that is what killed some of the little guys.

I feel horrible for Oskar and all that he has had to endure, and again, I agree with you Aunt Joyce... the lady should have reported the boys to the cops. Although, a lot of these reports never end up in anything either... who knows whats going to happen there. Even if Eli has taught Oskar how to stick up for himself I don't know if that's going to help in the long run... those bullies just keep getting worse.

I hope that Johnny and Steffan will make up their differences, especially after the horrifying scene with Hakan.

What do you think mom?

  1. This section was definitely filled with a lot of action and story line WOW. You're absolutely right Jen INTENSE. I told you that it seemed like there was an animal hoarder but at Part 3 I didn't realize how many cats there were (oooooh the stench). I do feel bad for the cats because they were just trying to get rid of the evil which Virginia had "inside" her. Now we can see why Hakan did so much for Eli, seems like she has a hold on individuals she/he comes in contact with. I wonder if she "chose" Oskar because he was a loner, was being bullied and then it would be easier for him to connect with her/him.
Seems like Jonny, with the help of his brother taunting him, is back to his bullying but is now much worse. He needs to get it back, somehow, for good.
As much as I feel bad and sad for Virginia, I give her a LOT of credit to do what she did - the right thing for her and others around her. Wish Hakan had as much in him to do the same.
Wondering what path Oskar is taking, he seems to remove himself from his mom now, since she is questioning, and rightfully so, Oskar part in starting the fire in the school (thought it was kind of dumb that Oskar focused on the desks of his bullies, it's like painting a sign, I did it because I've had enough).
Gotta say, it's been, so far, a very interesting, intense, and a "hard to put down" book - and who else would have chosen this book. I'm liking it and really curious as to what happens in the end. Think Oskar is going to leave tow because he's had it.
