Well Lauren is a cheater.... she already finished the book!
But I just didn't read anything from Tuesday on, cuz I finished the second section on Tuesday. This is such a good read. We are getting on a path to figuring out little by little what is going on.
I can not figure out Tessa. The more and more I read, the less and less I trust her. It seems like every one that the police have talked to had nothing but good things to say about her husband... but seemed to think that Tessa herself didn't love him as much as she should.
It's interesting about her previous history as well with the other guy she killed. She could just have coincidences of bad luck, but I do think there is a connection there somewhere. I have faith in DD and the other police to figure out exactly what happened. They really seem to be on top of their game. Being able to tell that Tessa has already changed her story once.....
This book, I think will continue to have more and more twists and turns... and I don't think we will find out exactly what happened until the very end.
I do enjoy the flashbacks that Tessa has cause you see a glimpse of the life she led with Brian and Sophie. It seems happy. Both of them were protective of Sophie so Brian does appear to be a good guy. I thought it was interesting that she wanted Brian's body immediately. Why?
ReplyDeleteHere we have two strong women - Tessa and D.D. - and yet, both of them have trouble with their men. D.D. doesn't know how to tell Alex of her being pregnant, is unsure herself. Tessa loves Brian but sees his weaknesses and chooses to ignore them so that life will happily go on. Or so she thinks.
Was shocked to read that Tessa had killed someone else (the brother of her best friend) but the circumstances were justified. Shane seems to be a good friend to both Brian and Tessa but was wondering why he had to beat her up so badly to portray the battered wife. Her beating was extreme. Also, that she had been an alcoholic but is now clean. With the rotten life she had at home, I can understand her turning to drinking to forget.
Brian doesn't seem like a monster. He understood when Tessa was upset with him for leaving Sophie with an unknown babysitter so he could go off skiing. He admitted he had made a poor choice and big mistake and tried to reassure TEssa it wouldn't happen again. This doesn't seem to be a man that would be a wife beater.
Brian going to a gym to bulk up is a mystery. Yet, the trainer says he is not on steroids and really loves Tessa. Mystery just deepens.
In flashbacks we see that Juliana was a good friend to Tessa and a lifeline. She did tell the police that her brother was raping others and Tessa couldn't be blamed for defending herself. Just that now Juliana's family fell apart. But now doesn't want to be involved in Tessa's new mess. Curious!
Now Tessa is in jail??? They're charging her for murder because she kept his body on ice for a day. Why?? What is happening? Yet, she cries when she is doing the deed? She seems to be so sorry for all of this. It was hard for her to wait for Brian to bleed out (I can understand that). Who is the man who questions her on why she is using the tampons? So much not known.
There is no doubt that Tessa loves her daughter and is desperate to find her but she is not trusting the police at all. Though she does seem to hold some hope for D.D.
Don't understand why D.D. is so hard on Tessa. But she is conscientious and wants to get to the bottom of it.
Lauren couldn't put the book down could she? Tell her she should do what I do. I put the book down when we are done with out section and read another book till we get to go to the next section.
Can't wait to read the next part. The author is good at the twists and turns (your words, Jen) and keeping us in suspense.
Let's keep fingers crossed that this will go. I also like how the author goes back and forth with D D's side and then Tessa's side. What puzzles me is how stoic and protective Tessa is with the information she needs to tell about Brian's death. I know it said that there is a cop code that says you don't confide to other cops and maybe she's just lived that too long and she doesn't want to get any of her other cop 'friends' in trouble with any information she might have confided with them.
ReplyDeleteCan't understand why D D is so skeptical of Tessa and that she even thinks that Tessa might have done something to Sophie. Is it a instinct that cops have about people lying to them. She never gave Tessa any inkling of a doubt from the beginning, always assuming she killed Brian and maybe self-inflicted all those wounds that brought her to the hospital.
Although I think at times, from what was read, Tessa seems overwhelmed with being a 'single' mom and becomes a little relaxed about Sophie's whereabouts, I don't believe she could do anything to harm Sophie. Also, I don't think Brian would either although at the time of his ski trip I thought he was negligent with what he did with Sophie and maybe feels that taking care of her when he's home is a little too much.
However, when I read the impressions from the trainer, I felt that Brian was just trying to be a good provider and protector to both Sophie and Tessa. Tessa does seem a bit diabolical with the tampons stopping blood flow from the three bullet holes, plus the snow keeping Brian's body cold? HHMMM.
The question is, is Tessa a hard, cold-blooded murderer, or someone who just loses control when she thinks either her or Sophie are in harm's way.
Is there a hit man or someone else involved who could have beat up Tessa to make it look like she is a battered wife.
Am anxious to read on to see if Tessa is who D D thinks she is. Whether D D is going to find out something that might make her change her mind. Will they find Sophie alive? What role does Sophie play in all this? Can't believe she'll be found dead...wouldn't like it. Hope I'll be able to get to the next section with P-T Conferences 3 nights next week. Will have to isolate myself on Friday and Saturday night to do so. Am continuing tonight to read more.
Tsk, tsk, tsk Lauren. It is hard to put a book down when it really start to gain momentum. :)
Yea!!!! I did it and on time. Welcome to the club Ingrid
ReplyDeleteHey Inks, good to see you on here. Learning how to juggle that horrific schedule and your health, huh? It's an easy read so you can get the next section done on Friday evening.
