Well, we've learned a lot in this last week.. but still don't know what happened.
Tessa keeps throwing new things our way. The fact that she is trying to take the blame for her husband's death because she just wants to get her Sophie back. I am quite relieved that her husband didn't beat her... (or did he? I'm still not sure).
Tessa has calculated everything all along the way. D.D. is really upset that she keeps playing into Tessa's plan. Because D.D. still thinks that Tessa has killed her daughter. I still don't know what to believe. I am still not sure if Sophie is alive. The more Tessa talks about it, it seems that Sophie is still alive somewhere with whomever took her in the first place. But when the bomb went off, they found pieces of little girl items all around... teeth fragments, pink fabric... If Tessa wanted Sophie to be found, I don't think blowing up that sight was the most positive thing for her to do. I want to believe that Tessa has nothing to do with Sophie missing... but I am still guessing. It either still has something to do with Tessa, or maybe it is about the loan sharks just trying to get their money back.
The end of this section through me for a loop when D.D and Bobby kissed. What the heck? I didn't see that one coming at all. I think Bobby sees D.D. in a moment of weakness, and they both have history... and this case is really stressful... but oh geez, I did not see it coming. Did you guys?
Happy Reading.
PS. The next book I want to read is the new Jodi Picoult book... not sure what it is called...
Wow! This author keeps twisting and turning us around. Sure keeps us guessing.
ReplyDeleteSo yes, we see that Tess's injuries were done on Sunday which means she has to have an accomplice since Brian is gone. So the man who shot Brian???? Glad to see his loved Tessa and Sophie in spite of his faults.
Why can't Tessa count on her union or her male colleagues? Why didn't she want segregation in jail? I would feel safer instead of being put in with everyone. What is TEssa's plan - jail, fight, set up of bomb in the field?
Now I see Shane helping Tessa so he beat her up? Is this believable?
Tessa is playing to her strength and D.D. grudgingly admits that this is one smart woman.
I didn't see this coming where the blown up bits could be Sophie? What the heck is going on?
The kiss between D.D. and Bobby threw me for a loop, too but was glad to see Bobby kept them realistic. That he's happily married with a child, etc.
Can't wait to finish.
Here I was so glad that I was keeping up with the reading and then BOOM, forgot to post. SORRY.
ReplyDeleteAnyway....I love this book because it does keep you going back and forth. First I am for Tessa and then I have my doubts, even with her love for Sophie. After all, you hear about these mothers in realy life who love their kids but then drive them into a lake or beat them and drop their bodies off the side of the road. It seems to me though that Tessa, as calculating as she is, is getting herself deeper in trouble with the law. Her escape, the bomb - did she set that up? Tessa's injuries certainly were real and extreme. Why did Shane do such a terrific job, was he really helping her? Did he know how and why he was helping by beating her up so brutally? What is his deal with all of this???? Was Brian a wife beater and that's why Shane did such a good job?
I still believe that Sophie is alive and have got to believe that Tessa is trying to get to her and that she didn't have anything to do with her disappearance unless it was to get her some place safe so that whomever got to Brian wouldn't get to Sophie and hold her hostage. Glad to read that Brian DID really love her and Sophie no matter how misguided he was due to his gambling problem.
D.D. also keeps going back and forth about her opinion of Tessa and I don't think she really knows how to 'read' Tessa. Why is she so bent on not having people, especially her boyfriend, know she is pregnant? Come on, even in a hectic, highly visible case, she should have some time to tell him.
I was also surprised by the kiss. A moment of seeing her so vulnerable, being in such a serious crime case and working so close together? After all, I agree, he is a happily married man with a child. Cmon Bobby!!!
Well, it happened again, luckily and hopefully I can paste my saved copy here.
ReplyDeleteSorry to do this but I'm going to jump the gun on this one. I'll be the sole driver down to North Carolina tomorrow and I'm not sure about my internet where we'll be. Soooo, I finished the book and was sad to see it end. It really was a terrific page turner. Glad to see that nothing came of Bobby and D.D.'s kiss. Was also super happy that Tessa really was gung ho with finding Sophie...her main goal with all the illegal things she did. Surviving above everything else to get to Sophie. Wow, what she went through and to find out that it was her superior that was behind everything. No wonder she was trying so hard not to tell people about what she was doing, where she was going, she just couldn't trust anyone in the 'police' arena.
And little Sophie what a spunky little girl she is and the love between mother and child plus child and mother really came to the forefront in the last few pages. Tears were welling up when she saw her mother and still decided to run up to her in spite of Tessa's warnings to run away.
Hurray for the timing of Bobby and D.D. so that they could see what Hamilton was all about, this sure helped to 'exonerate' Tessa and made her story (where she blamed others for killings) more plausible to them. Loved how Bobby himself said that if anyone harmed his wife and child, he would also go after them and not hesitate to shoot in order to save them.
Seems like D.D. though is still skeptical about the stories that Tessa told and hopefully she'll let it go especially now that she realizes she really does want that same connection of mother and child that Tessa has with Sophie.
Great place to put Tessa as far as her job goes and also happy to see that Lyons' family will get insurance because of the way Tessa set up his homicide by Purcell.
Loved the book and will get to the new Jodi Piccoult book that you want for the new book to read. Any name????? for the book?
Hey Jen,
ReplyDeleteAm joining your mom in commenting on the last section of the book. I know you are on spring break but finished the book so wanted to post before I get involved in the next project.
JOdi Piccoult's book is "Sing you Home" or something like that.
Loved this last book we read. The author was very good in holding my interest as the plot kept twisting and turning.
I loved the way Tessa kept her cool and depended on her own instincts and know how to find her daughter. I can see why she couldn't trust the police as there were too many crooked cops in the higher brass. My gosh, crooked cops and it all comes down to greed and money.
Was surprised that it was Juliana that killed her brother and Tessa took the blame for it. Horrible brother to rape his own sister. At least, Tessa could get someone to help her out even though it might be an unwilling person in Juliana. However, Juliana owed her big time.
Was relieved that Bobby and D.D. came through in the end. Tessa definitely showed strength in character to help out the "widow" of Shane with benefits and made it look better than the situation warranted. Also, taking the blame when she was younger for her friend, Juliana and staying silent.
Sure do admire Tessa more than any other character in the book. D.D. could learn from her.
How did you like the book Jen, and how about you Lauren???? Please post.
Loved the book! I liked the ending. Was glad to see that Tessa was not involved negatively at all. Was also glad to hear that her hubby had never abused her. I didn't think so, he didn't seem like the type.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing to see that all of this stuff went down because two guys just didn't know when to stop when it came to gambling. No wonder they call gambling an addiction.... just one more big win... and I'll stop... but it never happens that way does it?
I am concerned about Sophie in the long run, the fact that she won't speak of the kidnapping nor will she speak about the only "dad" she ever knew. Hopefully over time she will be able to talk about what happened and deal with what happened so it doesn't come back to haunt her later on in life.
I am excited for D.D. and her new family. D.D. is going to be a great mom!
Great Book! On to the next one!
