Week 2

Okay you guys post... i'll be ready to post about the whole book on Sunday.... CSET and baby have kept me busy...

  1. I know you have been extremely busy so it's ok.

This story is definitely progressing and I was right. I thought it was odd in the first section that Tess had her sailing accident in such a severe storm and that her friend was at Tess's house taking care of the dog and no one responded to her. So she did die.

It's a good thing that Charlie can "see" her and talk with her. She has Sam to help her with this phenomenon.

Now I am wondering what will happen next. They haven't recovered Tess's body yet. Everyone is extremely worried and upset. Can Tess come back to the land of the living for Charlie and her mom? Or is this an impossibility? What will Charlie do now that he knows what is going on? He's got two people he loves in another dimension.

Can't wait to finish and see how it all works out.

  2. OK, frustrated again as this is my 3rd time posting comments about this section. I had a pretty good idea that Tess was either dying or dead when her dog did not acknowledge her when she came in to her house. What is curious is that Charlie was able to have a somewhat intimate moment with Tess by actually holding her and kissing her. That made it confusing because he really never did touch Sam. Therefore that made you think that she wasn't really completely dead.
It was great for Tess to have Sam around to explain what was going on although at the beginning she didn't seem like she believed what was happening.
I think Charlie believed that she was still 'alive' somewhere since he did get a chance to hold on to her and therefore won't give up the idea to find her. Although others felt that things were hopeless due to them finding boat pieces but no body for Tess.
If Charlie does find her - if she is dead, will he try to join Sam and Tess then or will he just hang around the cemetary all his life? Will he just 'hang it up' and get out of the area to try to live a normal life?
It's sad to read that here he finally meets someone that he really would like to have a relationship with, the same thing with Tess and that it might end up hopeless. And with all this, what will happen to Sam if Charlie does find Tess alive and want to continue their relationship - after all, Tess likes to travel and Charlie doesn't want to let go of Sam?
7th try to post and hoping finally this will work out.

  3. Yeah, you were successful. Now that Jennifer's company is gone (except for you) she might have time to finish the book and post. I finished and am waiting to post the last part. Also, saw the movie AFTER I finished the book. Pretty good. Only a few changes.

  4. Hopefully I will be able to post the very first time :)
Well, Charlie did contemplate meeting up with Sam and possible Tess in the 'afterlife' but luckily Tess and later Sam were both able to 'contact' Charlie and lead him to finding Tess clinging to life. I did feel bad for Charlie when he had to make a decision about keeping his planned time with Sam in the cemetery or going after Tess. What a relief it was to see that Sam really was ready to move on and what a surprise that all of sudden Sam aged to his 'real' years.
Was glad to see that both Joe and Tink went with him to find her and that Sam was finally able to get Charlie's attention.
Again, I was saddened to read she was in a coma and of course relieved to have her come out of it and slowly but surely recognize Charlie. Going back to find her helped both Sam and Charlie move on in life and the afterlife. Great book.
Joyce, where do you find the movies from the books you read. Do you do Netflix?
Now next book "The Devil She Knows" by Bill Loehfelm

  5. Hey Inks, am glad you finished. I loved the way the movie ended and tied up all the loose ends. It was good to see Charlie finally able to live the life he was supposed to and that Sam can finally move on. It's also good for Tess that she is able to have a relationship instead of always focusing on her sailing. Agree with you on all your observations.

I saw the movies on HBO, sometimes on MAX, Showtime or TMC. At first, I saw the Girls series on Netflix(Dragon Tattoo, etc) Let ME In was on cable / HBO, I think. I do believe that Jennifer gets those on her cable so you might want to go on her menu to check it out.

Can't wait to start The Devil She Knows.

  6. Joyce,
Jen is super busy being a wonderful, attentive mom to and adorable/lovable Breslin, plus she works out, is training for Vegas marathon in first weekend of December, planning out her school syllabus, entertaining and more. So, let's just continue to post about The Devil She Knows. I've been reading it already and I'm sure you have too. Don't know where you are but I'm at Chapter 12 already. (while also reading another book) Not knowing where you're at, I'll just post about my impressions of the main characters so far.
I didn't like the main character, Maureen. It just didn't sit right that she was far from a clean cut, likeable person. At the beginning I wasn't sure if she was just a waitress at the bar or a waitress with benefits for her customers. I also didn't like the idea that she took coke and is a drinker. Maureen seems to be disconnected with people and shows no sign of real relationships with her workers at the bar or her social life outside of work. Then there is this experience with what she witbessed between Dennis and Sebastian. I gave her a lot of credit though when she decided she wouldn't tell anyone about what she saw, even if it was to protect herself.
Definitely knew it was Sebastian that had something to do with Dennis's demise. With his description I figured he would be somewhat a bully, an unscrupously character.
Sounds like John, former boss of Maureen, is trying to help and now we find that maureen is telling what she saw. Again, I wasn't too sure about Maureen's character by relying on John when he obviously has a girlfriend, Molly. She needs to be careful she doesn't get them involved somehow.
As Waters comes into the picture, per suggestion of John, the reader is not sure whether he is a good trustworthy 'cop' or whether he also has ties with Sebastian, who seems to become more powerful as the chapters go.
I'm hoping that Maureen might reconnect with her mother, reconnect with her, when she is 'forced' to move back into the house after the break-in at Maureen's place.
I'll stop for right now until I can see where you are at Joyce. Otherwise, let's say, first posting will be up to Chapter 12, then 13 to 21 and 22 through to the end.
So, I'll post more about chapters to 12 when you get there :)
