This was a really good part of the book, all of the stories are coming together. It was really hard for me to not read on..... I had read up to page 306 by Tuesday.... hahaha, and just waited until the end of the week so I could start up again.
Ummmm, Tate being "second" choice, but really "first" choice, didn't even seem to matter. Tate and Barrett seemed to be hitting it off great. As we go through this section of reading though, their new relationship is being tested. First by what Birdie said, and Tate overheard, about the relationship just being a summer fling. Then, Barrett's mind seeming like it was somewhere else. And again, the Fullin family getting in the way.
That Anita Fullin is beginning to really tick me off. What kind of audacity this woman must have to outright ask for the sculpture, and then really not take NO for an answer. I wonder if someway, somehow she ends up getting it. And then the whole job offer to Barrett. She really just WANTS Barrett as well, and can't take NO for an answer either.... Even though Barrett says he is going to take the job, I really hope that he doesn't.
Chess, slowly but surely, is starting to open up. I am looking forward to finding out the conclusion to her whole drama. However, there was one part where Chess said to Nick, "I keep wishing that Michael would fall in love with someone else." And Nick responded with "I keep wishing Michael would die." (P.234). I hope I am just reading into it... but really was that a precurser for what happened with Michael. Maybe he slipped and fell and Nick just didn't try to save him... I hope not.....
Birdie... Just like what I thought was gonna happen... the ex is back in the picture. I think that he has realized what a wonderful woman Birdie was, and now is not as busy with everything and is missing her. Birdie just wants whatever attention she can get because she is feeling lonely.
India... I think whatever happens with India will be perfectly fine for her. She seems like a very confident person and will do what is best for her, and what makes her happy. After going through what she went through with her husband she deserves to be happy. Whatever she decides will be the right choice.
I am excited to wrap this story up. Here's what I want to happen.. Barrett doesn't take the job, and continues to see Tate.. (however I doubt that will happen). Birdie will move on from both of her men and learn how to be independently happy (however the way the story is going, I think she will end up back with Bill). India will end up moving past the whole Lulah incident. And Chess will continue writing in her journal and finally tell Tate what has happened, completing the trip and their time together with completion and finalization.
What do you guys think?
Aunt Joyce or Mom, you guys pick the next book.... You decide who wants to... and hopefully as the months continue on we will get more readers!!!!! Can we have the booked picked by the middle of the week?!?!?!?!
I really like this book and it was hard for me to stop reading. Now I can finish it. However, before I do, I want to comment on what's happening so far. I was really surprised when Hank called off his relationship with Birdie. Also, he was right about seeing other women while his wife was in an institution. There are no excuses. He had promised in his wedding vows, for sickness and in health, better or worse and he didn't do that. He was selfish for wanting more. Now he feels the guilt and Birdie is the one who got hurt. Her ex does sound like he is realizing too late that he loves Birdie and took her for granted. I am not sure how this is going to go. Am really curious to find out. You're right about Chess opening up more and I am hoping she will start to confide in Tate. Explaining about her treatment of Barret when he drove up to see her at school. It helped clear that up. She was honest with him that she wasn't interested by turning him away cause she enjoyed her college activities more. Then, there is Barrett. What a disappointment he turned out to be. I am not sure I like him as much. He didn't really love his wife Stephanie, he is catering to Anita because of her wealth and attention. I can understand him wanting the job with the benefits, etc. but if he does that, he will be hooked. I didn't care for the way he left his boys to Tate while he talked with Anita. Good grief! Maybe all the women will decide they don't need guys or Lula to make them happy. It's all about them finding out who they are and coming to terms with their lives. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteHere are some suggestions on books for next month. The Help by Kathryn Stockett, Star Island by Carl Hiaasen, Veil of Night by Linda Howard, Girl Who Played with Fire or Girl with the Dragon Tattoo or Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest all by Stieg Larsson. The Girl series have been on the Best Sellers List for over a year. So I'm gathering that they are very good. Haven't read any of these but am intrigued by the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Let me know if any of these sound of interest to you. A. Joyce
ReplyDeleteYes... let's do the Girl who played with Fire!!!! Let me know if that's what we decide... Ill probably buy the book tomorrow... and I think we will wrap this one up tomorrow night... I finished reading it on MOnday night!!!! hahaha, so I;ve been waiting to start a new one!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to the library tomorrow to get the book Girl Who Played with Fire. Will let your mom know as soon as she gets back on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteSince I just got back from Florida, I haven't had a chance to finish the book. You know, unpacking, laundry and ironing and such. Will have to do it on Sunday as I get Madisyn and Taylor tomorrow till Sunday. So no time to read. I purposely left the book at home so I wouldn't cheat and read it before posting answers.
ReplyDeletehahahaha. good work Aunt Joyce!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat book. Sorry that I hadn't commented before but with going to Florida, school and Mrs. Ward coming from S. Carolina plus planning activities with her, time on computer got away from me. I'm so glad that Birdie's ex-husband "grew up" and realized that money plus his job wasn't as important as his relationship with Birdie. That Anita woman finally got her "one-uppance" the entire time I just couldn't like her at all...she thought power(her financial hold over Barrett), influence and money could get her anything and everything she wanted. Chess will make out all right although I'm wondering if Nick being back in her life is the best thing for her yet can "love" overcome all -could be a follow up with her and see how it goes. Still not sure about how I feel with India but she does deserve happiness plus friendship so maybe Lula will eventually be what she needs. All the 4 women really learned a lot about themselves and how others in their life will fit in. September's choice sounds great. I've heard a lot of positives from people but never picked up the book. Super reading ahead for all who will join us. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with your mom on all points. Loved the book.
