So sorry it took me this long to post.. I promise it won't happen again.
As A. Joyce said, the book started off just building up the characters (it took me awhile to get through that first part, and try and understand what was going on...) but the last 50 or so pages things started to pull together.
First off... can anybody help me with what Blomqvist got charged with???? And what a libel conviction is??? I am very interested how Vanger can help Blomqvist with this situation. It seems that Vanger is tied to EVERYONE!!!! The guy who was questioning the Milton company about Blomqvist was Frome... who works for Vanger. I am very curious why after the three days they dropped the investigation...
Also... I am gonna say the obvious.... Did Harriet die, or did she run away... maybe the flowers are being sent from her, just let Vanger know that she is alive (of course this is probably not the case, because that would be too easy).
I am also curious why Vanger chose Blomvqist. Why do you guys think he did? It obviously has to do with ties of Wennerstrom, it just has to be pieced together for us. I definately think that all of the characters are tied together and somebody that we have been introduced to in these first few pages are acting as a double agent of sorts.
My favorite character thus far is Salander, she intrigues me a bunch. And I am interested on seeing where her character takes this story as well. Who are your guys's favorite characters?
So what do you guys have to say about the first few pages... Let me know!!! And I'll write in a few days about the next pages. The book has definately stepped it up!!!!
Sounds like Wennerstrom is crooked and uses his funds illegally but good at covering his tracks. Blomkvist tried to expose him on the word of Lindberg. There wasn't enough evidence in court to give because he would have to expose Lindberg and he'd given his word not to do that. Wennerstrom has enough power to get out from under the charges so Blomkvist was left hanging in the wind. I think that Blomkvist is an honest man and tried to do the right thing always. He got caught unprepared for this event. So now he has to pay the piper but still feels he was right. I feel that Vanger
ReplyDeletechose Blomkvist due to knowing his family when he was little, wanting to bring down Wennerstrom and solving the problem of Harriet's disappearance. I think that he is really trying to help Blomkvist and at the same time trying to find out what happened. It did start to get interesting later on when we found out more about Salander and her background, digging into Vanger's family and not knowing if Berger is really loyal to Blomkvist. What is she turns out to be Harriet??? Lots of unanswered questions here. I am interested to know how it all will end. Don't have a clue yet as to who is sending the flowers. I think it is someone who had something to do with Harriet's disappearance. I like Blomkvist and will be curious to see how Salander will tie into all of this. It is turning out to be a good read, don't you think?
Yes I do Aunt Joyce! Thanks for clarifying. That is a very interesting thought about Salander... But do we know if that would work out agewise???
ReplyDeleteMom... where are you???
Yes, where is Ingrid???? I think Salander is a very interesting character and just speculating here about her and her interest in Blomkvist.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm back on board. Sorry, couldn't keep up with everything, especially at school. Lots of drama and lots of preps. Anyway, it did take me a LONG time to get into the book, all that financial jargon and disconnect with who is who (for a while). I even thought about skipping some pages but then I realized I still wasn't able to connect anything as a result of that move. Now I'm finally getting involved with the entire story. I think that Wennerstrom himself isn't that smart, he's got to have someone who is able to advise him to be "under the law" and Blomkvist feels he is so right in trying to expose him or just plain old try to tell the story of the illegal profits Wennerstrom is enjoying. Because of all the "I will not betray or expose my sources" has left Blomkvist trying to stand up with what he feels should be exposed but due to Wennerstrom's connections, Blomkvist truly is on his own. What a bitch. Vangar's past history and connection with Blomkvist was the reason why he chose to tell him the story but I don't know what he expected the outcome to be if he wouldn't back up the story (allegation) of Wennerstrom's underhanded businesses. I am intrigued with Salander, wondering why she is so interested in the Vanger family. Gotta admit that I admire Blomkvist and his convictions with the story he is trying to convey and that he is unwilling to betray his "source". The flowers are also a mystery to me. Is Wennerstrom and/or his partner(s) in crime sending them to taunt them????
ReplyDeleteContinuing to read, still a little behind but catching up. APOLOGIES.
