Week 4

Well there you go....

Zalachenko is Salander's father. No wonder Salander is the way she is. After her father treated her mother the way that they described... Salander has every way to feel the way she does, and to me, sounds like, she has made a great life for herself, considering everything that is stacked up against her.

There really isn't much more to say... of course, Blomkvist got there, a slight second too late... but probably just in time. I love how he is so in tune to everything that is going on... Or one step ahead of everyone else. His loyalty Salander never faultered, even through the time when Salander stopped talking to him.

I understand why Salander stopped talking to him. She finally let herself open up to... or "love" Blomkvist... probably only the second man she ever trusted next to Palmgren, and she felt betrayed by his actions with Berger.

Ummmm, yeah, we definately have to read the next one.... cuz this one didn't even come close to ending.

The good thing about Zalachenko trying to kill Salander is that he finally got his hands dirty... He is finally linked to this mess. The one thing that he never was... The breakdown that happened with Neidermann and Zalachenko might just be enough to pin all of this on them. I am really curious to see the outcome of this.

What did you guys think of the ending.... (or should I say, lack there of???)

  1. I thought it was a great story line and love the way all the strings finally tied in together. What a sleezebucket Zala is. He says there are more half brothers and sisters. Are they all odd ducks like the big blond "brother" and Salander? He definitely has no family love for any of his offspring or wife.

You're right about Blomkqvist. He is loyal and I think he is brilliant in being able to tie up loose ends in solving all the clues. He sure is a great friend to have in your corner.

Salander is also clever in putting together clues and solving mysteries. I hope she eventually finds some happiness. It must be hard to live life without getting close to anyone and feeling that you can't trust others. Although, who can blame her? She's an amazing survivor. How can one live through getting shot three times (once in the brain, no less). I hope it doesn't injure her ability to do what she has always done. She definitely is tough and shows no fear in facing her foes (physically or mentally).

The ending is a cliffhanger and can't wait to dive in the next book for some kind of closure. I think I am going to rent the two movies that are out(Dragon Tattoo and Girl who played with Fire). They're Swedish with subtitles but read the reviews in the paper today and it reported that it stays true to the books.

I was so frustrated with the local police in the end that botched up the crime scene and let the blond giant go by their carelessness. What idiots!

Happy reading and hope the morning sickness goes by the wayside soon. Love you.

  2. Wonder if Salander's half brothers/sister will come into play with the Girl Who kicked the Hornet's Nest? Although Blomqvist is bright with putting puzzle pieces together you thinkc he might get the idea that Salander's inability to reconnect with him has to do with relationships. But then he's kind of clueless in that department and doesn't really seem to have the need of any kind of emotional relationship. He does care about Salander though as he watches over her and was very much taking care of her in his own way.
The local police were idiots and I don't think they'll ever realize what mistakes they made.
Salander has great survival skills and what she went through with Zalta and her mother has definitely shaped her character. She does have her moral values but still is quick to be a vigilanti when it comes to "getting back" to those who have wronged her and others. I like her "loyalty" to MiMii (forgot her name and my book is in school 'adult' library). Can't wait to read how she will "clear" her name to all those who were against her and how she is going to get back to those who gave her no credit in her life. Will she go back to the bullies from her school years...I kind of hope so. Her "blond giant brother" certainly was a genetic freak and I was really getting pissed at him and how he kept seeming to come up on top. Oh well, should be redemption for Salander in next book.
